International Yoga Day 2026 — Vaani Polytechnic College

A 2.5-hour in-person session for the 12th International Yoga Day at Vaani Polytechnic College, Vaniyambadi — combining goal setting, visualization, guided meditation, and yoga stretching for the entire student body.

Why the college invited the session

For the 12th International Yoga Day, Vaani Polytechnic College in Vaniyambadi wanted more than a token celebration. The faculty asked for a session that would give their students real, take-home tools — for focus, calm, and direction — at a stage of life where most of them are deciding what to build their careers around.

What we covered in 2.5 hours

The session moved through four layers. We began with goal setting — writing down one-year and five-year intentions in plain language. Next came visualization, walking the students through a guided exercise of seeing their goals as already real. Then guided meditation to settle the mind, and finally yoga stretching to release the tension that desk-bound students carry without noticing.

What changed in the hall

The room arrived restless — phones, side conversations, the usual hum of a college hall. By the meditation segment, the silence was complete. Students who came in slouched were sitting upright with eyes closed. Several stayed back afterwards to ask how to continue the practice on their own.

What this experience taught me

"Polytechnic students rarely get invited into stillness — the curriculum runs hard and the future feels uncertain. Giving them goal setting alongside meditation made the practice feel useful, not abstract. The goals gave them direction; the meditation gave them the ground to stand on while pursuing them."
